There are some days when all you need is some good food and live music. Well, one of those days happened to be today and here I am at Timbre+ for dinner.
I have been here on countless occasions and yet I still find the place intriguing, vibrant and ever changing. It can get extremely humid at times (due to the lack of air-conditioning) as this is essentially just a hawker centre which transforms into a food centre with live performances at night.
The Timbre group is well known for their support of local bands and I must say that out of all their outlets, it just feels that the bands that play at Timbre+ seem to be the best of the lot. There are some Timbre outlets which offer stripped down, acoustic performances but Timbre+ is not one of such outlets. Expect the full works, drums, bass and electric guitars, a hyperactive lead singer screaming to Guns and Roses hits like Sweet Child of Mine. On Saturdays, you will get an extremely lively band, O.K. Ready.
The whole atmosphere was vibrant. You order your food just like you would at any hawker centre or food court. The stalls range from Bak Kut Teh to Western Food to Ice Cream Bars.
I particularly like the burgers at Big Bern’s. No particular reason. I was hoping to get a cheeseburger but they were out of beef by the time I got there. I guess you had to go pretty early before they sell out the more popular items. It does get pretty crowded at Timbre+ over the weekends.
I was actually aiming for the Whoopass Cheeseburger but settled for the BBQ Chicken burger instead which costs $8 after a 10% discount.
I also had salted egg flavoured chicken wings from Two Wings.
French Toast with ice-cream. Was with my missus. She never passes on dessert.
There has to be a bar when there is good live music. The bar mainly serves up craft beers. They have a great selection of craft beers.
There was a wide selection of beer at the bar. A whole row of fridges. Prices range from about $10 to $16 per bottle.
All in, this is a great place to have good food, live music and an ice cold beer. Just 2 minor things to take note when visiting Timbre+.
1) You pay a dollar for your food tray. You will get it back when you self-return your food tray.
2) They serve beer in plastic cups. That’s just wrong! Get the bottled beers instead!
Timbre has got a winning formula with Timbre+.
