The durian season is upon us! Once again it is that time of the year whereby durians start to get ever so creamier and tastier. I was looking for a durian buffet to go to with my family and I stumbled upon Lime Restaurant. I had previously wanted to visit this particular restaurant for one of their previous themed buffets. For now, they have a special durian themed buffet, aptly named Thorny Temptations.
For those who cannot stomach the smell and taste of durian, this buffet is definitely not for you. Simply put, Lime Restaurant infused durian into any dish whenever it was possible. So you have dishes like Durian Ravioli with Sage and Garlic Butter, Butter Durian Prawn with Curry Leaves and Chilli Padi, Wok Fried Prawn and Petal with Sambal Durian, Pandan Crepes with Durian Mousse, Deep Fried Durian Ice-Cream, Mini Durian Crumble and Durian Pengat. For a start it may sound weird but once you try the dishes, you will begin to view durian not just as a fruit but something you can use as a garnish.
The Durian Ravioli was really good!
I personally enjoyed the Prata with Durian. Somehow it just works!
The Durian Paste in Brick Leaves was pleasantly enjoyable!
Foie gras with durian? Well, that seemed interesting too. Did not try it. The assortment was extremely wide.
Not to mention there was a huge spread of durian infused desserts!
Of course, there were the traditional buffet items like Sashimi, vegetables, fruits. I’ve got to say, the beef was extremely soft and tender.
Other non-durian-infused dishes.
There was even a made to order section where you could build your own burger. I found this rather interesting and the burger was really good. You could choose the fillings to go with your burger.
You could also get a bowl of Laksa or Yong Tau Foo prepared on the spot. However, I hardly went through half of the spread as I was saving space in my belly for actual durians!
The Durian section is situated outside the restaurant. You could request to sit closer to this entrance as you would have to consume your durian outside the restaurant.
Tables and chairs were set up. You could use the gloves provided and yes, you can eat as many D24 and Mao Shan Wangs as you like! The quality is good, properly curated.
My favourite buffet has always been The Line at Shangri-La. However, the people at Lime Restaurant, with their innovatively themed buffets are really providing an extremely good alternative. This durian themed Thorny Temptations Buffet is valid from 7th of July 2017 to 2nd September 2017 daily from 630pm to 1030pm except on Mondays. It costs SGD$88++ for adults and SGD$58++ for children between the age of 6 and 12.
For durian lovers, you just have to try this!
