Chicken rice is a staple for most Singaporeans. I am proud to say that we have one of the best chicken rice in the world. I am always on the lookout for a good savoury plate of chicken rice and Leong Yeow happens to be close to my office.
Beware the lunch crowd though. The queues can get really long and it can take more than 20 minutes for you to get your plate of chicken rice. The lines die down from about 130pm onwards and by 2pm you should be able to get your order instantly.
Leong Yeow serves up chicken rice in “white” or steamed and roasted variations but I personally believe that Hainanese Chicken Rice should be “white”. They sell Char Siew and Roasted Pork as well but these are nothing much to shout about.
Leong Yeow’s chicken is extremely tender and flavourful. Their portions are just about decent but their rice is rather dry and bland. A plate of chicken rice costs $3.50 and if you go for the chicken thigh or drumstick (The best part of the chicken!) it would cost $4. A set meal of steamed chicken with rice and soya sauce kai lan costs $5.80.
Leong Yeow’s chicken rice definitely did not disappoint!
