6th Avenue Wanton Mee – 5 Stars Rated
A satisfactory plate of wanton mee is always a great way to start the day. Over here in Singapore, you can choose between having Malaysian styled (Lotsa black sauce), Thai, Singapore or Hongkong styled wanton mee.
And there is this particular store at Bukit Timah that I would highly recommend if you would like to have an awesome plate of Singapore styled wanton mee.
Located in a coffee shop situated off 6th Avenue, I first came across 6th Avenue Wanton Mee last year. Ever since, I would make my way down to have the wanton mee whenever I can.
What really captivated my palate was how the texture of the noodles was cooked to perfection. Springy and smooth. The noodles don’t lump together such that you can slurp them in mouthful after mouthful. Stir in the light but extremely tasty sauce blend, it’s so good you can just eat it on its own! Shiok to the max!
The char siew comes in thin slices and are the less fatty portions. The wontons are a tad small, not the full-bodied ones stuffed with prawns that you find in Hongkong restaurants.
Another thing worth mentioning is that the soup is super duper delicious. Too bad they only give a small bowl of it.
The best part of it all, a plate of wanton mee cost only $3.50. You can request for upsizing. It’s only $4.
I would suggest you get there before 12pm to avoid the lunch crowd. Go too late and there may be no more noodles left. It’s especially crowded during the weekends. I believe it’s super popular with the residents in the area. Whenever I’m there, I always see lots of regulars patronising the stall.
If you are driving, parking along the road is limited. You can swing across the road to park in Gutherie House.
Verdict: Must Try!
