Back in 2013, Gordon Ramsey took on 328 Katong Laksa in the Singtel Hawker Heroes Challenge. Well, he lost! 4 years later, he is back in the UK and 328 Katong Laksa is still Singapore’s favourite laksa.
328 Katong Laksa has many branches all over Singapore. The outlet which Gordon Ramsey visited on 6th July 2013 was located at 51 East Coast Road. The outlet is across the road from Katong V.
The outlet is extremely clean and bright. The walls are plastered with pictures of celebrities who have visited the outlet.
Prices have steadily risen over the years. Currently, it costs $5.50 for a small bowl of laksa. A large bowl adds another $2 to your bill. Pricey it may be but it may be the best bowl of laksa you may ever have. There is something about the broth. The coconut taste is just about right, the cockles and prawns are fresh. The laksa by default is not very spicy. You can decide to add more chilli on your own. I find it weird that they serve chilli in packets. Perhaps that is a price to pay for progress.
An otah costs $1.40 and a cup of home made lime juice costs $2.20. Pricey indeed. Do not waste your money on the dim sum. It is absolutely horrible. If you are still hungry just get a second serving of laksa. Yes, the dim sum is that horrible and the laksa is that good!
If you are looking for a good bowl of laksa, you really cannot go wrong with 328 Katong Laksa. Oh and one thing I love about this laksa, the noodles are cut real short and it just makes eating laksa in a nice shirt so much cleaner, simpler and dignified!
